Reading today is no longer confined to setting aside time with a printed book. Many people now rely on digital devices — a mobile phone, laptop or tablet — to fill the time when they are commuting or traveling. It is rare to see anyone, except for students, reading a book while traveling on public transport.

For the fifth year, the Guardian Art Center is trying to rekindle people's interest in the printed word by holding the annual Guardian Art Book Fair and Creative Festival at its venue in central Beijing, running from Wednesday to Sunday.

The event brings together publishers, exhibitors and other cultural institutions from home and abroad showcasing a wide variety of publications that celebrate not only diverse and rich content, but also the artistry of design and bookbinding.

A section dedicated to creative products has also been added to attract a broader audience to the fair.
