Shooting at Chicago hospital leaves 2 police officers injured

NEW YORK - A shooting at a hospital in the northern suburbs of the US city of Chicago on Saturday left two police officers injured, local media reported.

According to a statement released by the hospital, the suspect was a patient brought into the hospital by law enforcement for treatment at about 9 am local time. During the stay in the hospital, he managed to grab a gun from the police, fire shots and escape the hospital.

Police on the scene confirmed that two officers were shot and taken to hospital. An informed source disclosed that one officer was dead on the scene and another was critically injured.

The suspect was in custody by about 12:20 pm local time after a short manhunt, local media reported.
