Prisons across China are required to innovate rehabilitation measures to help inmates better reintegrate into society under a revised law adopted Thursday by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature.

The amended Prison Law, which contains 121 articles in eight chapters, will take effect on Nov 1. It encourages prisons to engage experts in law, education, psychology and social work to support inmate rehabilitation, aiming to make the correctional process more professional.

The law also supports the involvement of volunteers and social organizations in the education and rehabilitation of inmates.

In addition, it calls for strengthened efforts to improve the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, including providing regular psychological support.
