Spectacular "blue tears" have appeared along the beaches of Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province, at the end of April, creating a glowing "fluorescent sea" at night. The phenomenon is caused by Noctiluca scintillans, a type of tiny plankton that glows neon blue when disturbed by crashing waves. This natural spectacle makes the coastline look like a star-studded galaxy fallen to earth.
