China reiterates position on Jimmy Lai case

In response to a question on whether human rights issues and the case of Jimmy Lai were discussed during talks between the Chinese and US presidents, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said China has repeatedly made its position on Lai clear.

Guo said Lai was a major planner and participant in anti-China activities that disrupted the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, adding that Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs.

The central government firmly supports Hong Kong's judicial bodies in performing their duties in accordance with the law, Guo said.
