With a total coastline length exceeding 3,800 meters, the project will be capable of accommodating the world's ultra-large container ships, fully supporting the needs of ocean-going mainline shipping and effectively enhancing the Greater Bay Area's port capabilities for international routes.

Additionally, it aims to further improve the inland waterway barge transportation system, facilitating seamless intermodal transport of ocean and river shipping, according to the port group.

Currently, Nansha port boasts an annual container throughput exceeding 22 million TEUs. It has launched over 200 container shipping routes, with foreign trade containers accounting for more than 60 percent of the total.

Participating in construction of the project is the Jun Guang, a world-leading and Asia's largest trailing suction hopper dredger, invested and constructed by CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Co Ltd.

The vessel has a total length of 198 meters, a maximum dredging depth of 120 meters and a maximum hopper capacity of 38,528 cubic meters, making it the second largest in the world and the largest in Asia.

The vessel is capable of undertaking major marine engineering tasks such as port and navigation dredging, land reclamation, island construction, submarine tunnel building, marine mineral development and submarine cable laying.
