MADRID -- Two people were killed and four others, including two minors, were seriously injured in a shooting late Monday in the southern Spanish city of El Ejido, local media reported.

Spain's Civil Guard received an emergency call at around 11:15 pm local time (2115 GMT) on Monday reporting gunfire near the El Canalillo area of El Ejido. Officers later arrived at the scene and found a car riddled with bullet holes, with a married couple dead inside the vehicle.

Multiple Spanish media outlets reported that the suspected gunman fled the scene after the shooting and was later taken into police custody. The suspect, a 25-year-old Spanish man, was identified as the son of the two victims.

Four other people were seriously injured in the incident, including a seven-month-old baby and a two-year-old child. The baby, reportedly the suspect's son, remains in critical condition. A woman suffering multiple gunshot wounds and another man were also hospitalized.

Following the incident, Civil Guard units, including members of the Rapid Action Group, along with emergency medical personnel, were deployed to the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
