China and the United Kingdom should work in the same direction, deepen bilateral cooperation and multilateral coordination, and jointly maintain the momentum of improvement and growth in China-UK relations, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.
Guo made the remarks at a regular news conference when asked about the resignation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and its possible impact on China-UK relations.
The resignation is a matter for the UK's internal affairs, and China will not comment on it, Guo said, adding that China and the UK are both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major countries.
Developing a long-term, stable and comprehensive strategic partnership serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is also conducive to world peace, stability and prosperity, Guo added.
