Diverse lineup heats up summer movie season

Comedy also features prominently in this year's lineup. Make Zhonghe Great Again, the sequel to the 2023 hit Johnny Keep Walking!, reunites director Dong Runnian with his creative team for another workplace comedy. Keep Real, starring Wei Xiang, offers a humorous take on modern social etiquette, while the Chengdu-set The Thrifty Angel, featuring Meng Hetang, finds laughs in the everyday life of a frugal protagonist.

Animation remains another highlight of the season. Chinese Animation: A Century celebrates the 100-year history of China's animation industry, while Master Zhong brings the legendary ghost hunter to the big screen. Three Kingdoms: The Beginning, from the creative team behind the blockbuster Chang'an, reimagines the power struggle among renowned historical figures such as Cao Cao, Yuan Shao, Lyu Bu, and Dong Zhuo.

The imported lineup includes Masters of the Universe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the live-action adaptation of Moana, and Toy Story 5, giving moviegoers an equally strong selection of international blockbusters.
