Unity is strength: A metaphor for China-US relations

Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, professor of international law at Macao Polytechnic University, said at the 2026 Think Tank Forum on National Governance in Developing Countries on June 26 that some US scholars and politicians still hold a binary view regarding the China-US relationship. He cited the story in Gulliver's Travels where Gulliver was immobilized by the tiny residents of Liliput to explain the logic that "unity is strength", calling on developing countries to enhance unity and jointly build an international order of equality and mutual benefit.
