Back in 2025 at the third China International Supply Chain Expo, the Invest Beijing Service Desk, operated by the Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau, welcomed senior executives from Yara, a global leader in crop nutrition and ammonia solutions, who were evaluating locations across China for a new innovation center.
It was during that seminal meeting at the expo that the bureau's service team showcased Beijing's strengths in agricultural technology, clean energy and scientific innovation, as well as its world-class business environment. The professional and efficient support left a strong impression on Yara's management.
It didn't just stop there as the bureau immediately listed the project among its priorities for continuous follow-up. Over the following year, the bureau assembled a dedicated task force to support the project. Working closely with municipal authorities responsible for development and reform, science and technology, and agriculture, the team coordinated policy consultations and site selection, helping the company identify a location best suited to its long-term development.
The bureau also assisted Yara in accessing a comprehensive package of supportive policies, covering multinational headquarters, foreign-funded R&D centers, technology commercialization and talent recruitment. In addition, the team organized visits to leading innovation parks and facilitated exchanges with major agricultural research institutions, including Agricultural Zhongguancun Science Park, China Agricultural University and the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, laying a solid foundation for future industry-academia collaboration.
These efforts culminated in Yara's decision to establish its Thryve Open Innovation Center in Beijing. Founded in 1905 and operating in more than 60 countries and regions, Yara is committed to "responsibly feeding the world and protecting the planet". The new center will focus on clean ammonia, sustainable agriculture, synthetic biology and smart agriculture, serving as a global platform for developing and advancing cutting-edge technologies.
The project marks another milestone in Beijing's efforts to attract high-quality international investment and reinforce its position as an international hub for scientific and technological innovation. It is also expected to contribute to the development of Agricultural Zhongguancun Science Park while accelerating innovation in sustainable agriculture.
From the initial meeting at an exhibition booth to the successful establishment of a major foreign-funded project, the Invest Beijing Service Desk demonstrates the city's commitment to delivering professional, efficient and investor-focused services throughout every stage of the investment journey.
Bearing the message, "Invest Beijing, We Are with You All the Way", the service desk embodies Beijing's commitment to building a world-class business environment. By providing seamless, full-cycle support, it continues to make investing in the Chinese capital easier, more efficient and more rewarding for global enterprises.
