A comprehensive emergency drill was held recently at the Basuo Port breakwater project in Dongfang, Hainan province, to strengthen flood control, typhoon response and work safety for major coastal infrastructure projects.

The project, undertaken by China Communications Construction Company Guangzhou Dredging Co, is part of the supporting facilities for the Hunan-Hainan Co-constructed Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Park and its adjacent port logistics base. Located in the northern harbor basin of the Gaopai Port Area at Basuo Port, the project includes the construction of a 4,220-meter breakwater.

Once completed, the breakwater is expected to provide shelter for terminal and navigation channel works, improve port support facilities and enhance safety for marine engineering construction in the region, according to the company.

The drill covered key emergency-response procedures, including typhoon warning response, personnel evacuation, rescue of a person overboard, emergency medical treatment, vessel and machinery protection, and hazard inspection.

Organizers said the drill tested the effectiveness of emergency plans and improved cross-department coordination, laying a stronger safety foundation for the construction of major coastal engineering projects in Dongfang.
