Authorities in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, have confirmed that a man died after falling from a shopping mall in the city's Yanta district. Local police have ruled out criminal causes.
According to a statement released by the district's authorities on Thursday, the incident occurred at around 12:10 pm on Wednesday at Saga, an international shopping center. The deceased was identified as a retail businessperson operating within the mall.
After conducting on-site investigations and interviewing witnesses, the district's public security department concluded that there were no criminal elements involved in the case, the statement said, adding that arrangements to comfort and assist the family members of the deceased are proceeding in an orderly manner.
In response to some online posts about a possible commercial dispute between the mall management and the business run by the deceased, the district government has set up a joint investigation team comprising officials from the market regulation, commerce, public security, and judicial departments. The team is looking into the claims, the statement noted.
It said that the district's authorities will continue to strengthen oversight of the local market order to protect the lawful rights and interests of all parties involved.
