Guangdong dispatched 200 officers, 34 fire rescue vehicles, and 17 rescue boats to flood-hit Hengzhou city, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Monday.
Teams departed simultaneously from seven cities — Guangzhou, Dongguan, Maoming, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, Heyuan, and Chaozhou — at 3:20 pm on Monday, arriving in Hengzhou early on Tuesday to begin search, rescue, and evacuation operations, as well as waterlogging drainage and hazard elimination work under frontline headquarters command.
Located in southeastern Guangxi, Hengzhou has been among the worst affected areas, with severe urban waterlogging and rural flooding following successive heavy downpours. More than 84,700 residents have been affected, of whom 54,468 required relocation, authorities said. As of Tuesday at noon, 53,808 had been evacuated and resettled, with the remaining 660 being moved in batches. The full relocation was expected to be completed on Tuesday.
As of 11 am on Tuesday, at least four had been killed and 8 reported missing in Hengzhou, local authorities said.
On the power restoration front, China Southern Power Grid deployed 900 staff and 130 drone operators to Qinzhou and Fangchenggang, two other severely affected areas, alongside emergency power generation vehicles, flood drainage equipment, satellite phones, and other supplies. The company has also activated a Level-II emergency response across all affected power supply subsidiaries and established a 24-hour integrated dispatching and command system to conduct hourly rolling analysis of rainfall, flood, and line fault conditions.
Guangdong Power Grid dispatched 25 emergency power vehicles and 20 high-flow drainage units to waterlogging-stricken areas, including Nanning, Qinzhou, and Guigang.
