Top political adviser stresses CPPCC's role as special consultative body

BEIJING -- Wang Huning, China's top political adviser, urged members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Tuesday to fulfill the functions and give full play to the CPPCC's role as a special consultative body.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, made the remarks when presiding over a meeting of the Chairperson's Council of the CPPCC National Committee.

He called on CPPCC members to play their role in offering advice on state affairs to provide high-quality consultative services in support of Chinese modernization, and contribute to building a broad consensus for building a strong country and realizing national rejuvenation.

Wang underscored the importance of recognizing that promoting the united front is a valuable historical experience gained through the Party's long-term endeavors, and urged political advisers to increase their political, ideological, theoretical, and emotional identification with the CPC and socialism with Chinese characteristics.

He also asked the CPPCC to focus on the central tasks of the Party and the State while fulfilling its responsibilities, and to exercise consultative democracy throughout the whole process of political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in and deliberation of state affairs.
