Beijing issues first orange alert of flood season, some districts upgrade to red

Beijing issued its first orange rainstorm alert of this year's flood season on Thursday, as the districts of Miyun, Huairou, Shunyi, Fangshan and Pinggu upgraded to red, the highest level, with authorities forecasting torrential rainfall through Saturday morning.
According to local meteorological authorities, Miyun is expected to receive torrential to extremely heavy rainfall from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, with some areas forecast to record more than 150 millimeters of rain within six hours and more than 200 mm in 24 hours.
Huairou and Shunyi are also forecast to experience localized rainfall exceeding 150 mm in six hours and 200 mm in 24 hours.
Forecasters warned that mountainous and semi-mountainous areas face a high risk of secondary disasters, including flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, while low-lying urban areas may experience severe waterlogging. Residents have been advised to take precautions and closely monitor official weather updates.
