Beijing rebuffs 'China Squeeze' narrative

China rejected on Friday claims that its manufacturing capacity is crowding out industrial development opportunities for Global South countries, saying the argument is inconsistent with the facts.

"I believe countries of the Global South would not agree with the so-called China Squeeze narrative either," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular news briefing.

Mao made the remarks in response to claims by some international media that China's dominance in both high-tech and labor-intensive manufacturing is squeezing the industrialization opportunities of developing economies, a phenomenon they have termed the "China Squeeze".

As a member of the Global South, China has always shared its development experience without reservation and supported the development of fellow Global South countries, Mao said.

Through productive cooperation in infrastructure, investment and technology, China has helped these countries strengthen their capacity for independent development, she said, adding that China will continue to create opportunities for the world through its own development and work with other countries toward common prosperity.
