Trans-Himalaya forum yields sports, satellite, and disaster prevention agreements

International cooperation agreements on sports, satellite technology, and disaster prevention were among the key outcomes of the fifth China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum for International Cooperation, which concluded on Saturday in Nyingchi, Xizang autonomous region.

Held from July 16 to 18, the forum brought together more than 350 participants from 29 countries and regions to discuss climate change, ecological security, sports cooperation, and green development in high-altitude regions.

In sports, Xizang signed a letter of intent with Argentina's Salta Province to establish friendly provincial-level ties, while the city of Shigatse reached agreements with two municipalities in Salta on youth football training exchanges, drawing on Argentina's experience in youth player development.

Scientific cooperation also advanced. The Ministry of Natural Resources signed a memorandum of understanding with Kyrgyzstan on satellite data applications to support land management, cross-border disaster monitoring, ecological protection, and agricultural observation.

The forum also launched a high-altitude disease prevention information network to enable real-time medical consultations, while the Xizang Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences renewed a cooperation agreement with the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development on plateau agricultural technologies.

Zhao Peng, vice-chairman of the Xizang autonomous regional government and chairman of the forum's organizing committee, said the forum has become an important platform for promoting practical cooperation across the Himalayan region and pledged continued efforts to deepen regional partnerships.
