Yunnan launches emergency response after 5.0-magnitude earthquake

BEIJING -- The Yunnan provincial earthquake relief headquarters has activated a Level IV emergency response after a 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted the southwest province's Mojiang county in Pu'er city on Tuesday, local authorities said.

The earthquake struck at 7:43 pm Beijing Time. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter was monitored at 23.19 degrees north latitude and 101.46 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of 6 km.

The province has dispatched a working group to the affected area, with firefighting and rescue teams from Pu'er city and Mojiang county sent to the epicenter to assess the earthquake's impact and support relief efforts.

The county's power grid remained operational as of around 8:50 pm, said the local power grid operator.

No casualties or property losses have been reported so far.
