Music competition heats up with global stars

Hunan Satellite TV's flagship music competition show, Singer 2026, is currently captivating audiences with its most globally diverse roster to date.

The season marks an expansion of the show's international footprint, featuring Grammy-winning artist John Legend and British vocal powerhouse Jessie J as high-profile challengers, making this the strongest international lineup since the series premiere in 2013.

Jessie J, who clinched the show's season title in 2018, made a return to the stage on May 29 with explosive performances of My Way and California.

John Legend graced the June 26 episode with an intimate piano performance of his hit, All of Me, and a moving rendition of Imagine, further cementing the season's international prestige.

This season also introduces a roster of emerging global talents to the competition: American singer Albert Stanaj, Canadian vocalist Faouzia Ouihya, and 24-year-old British singer Elliot James Reay, underscoring the show's commitment to showcasing artists across generations, genres and cultural backgrounds.

In a landmark move for the franchise, the show's production unit has partnered with the All-Asian Satellite Television and Radio Operator in Malaysia to co-produce a localized Malaysian edition of the program this year. The adaptation features 300 public judges rating seven contestants drawn from Malaysia's primary ethnic communities.

Beyond replicating the show's entire industrial-grade production framework in Malaysia, the collaboration has achieved meaningful local content adaptation while honoring the country's indigenous traditions, fostering deeper China-Malaysia cultural exchange through international co-production.

Singer 2026 aims to push boundaries by broadening its international representation across diverse musical genres and generations. The participating artists have not only introduced a rich spectrum of musical aesthetics to Chinese audiences but have also forged genuine connections through their heartfelt and authentic performances.
