As of 5:40 pm on Sunday, rescue teams had completed a fourth round of search operations after a flash flood struck Weiyuan county in Dingxi, Gansu province, leaving 10 people dead and 23 injured, local authorities said on Sunday.

The disaster was triggered by torrential rainfall in Huichuan town. At around 2 pm on Sunday, a flash flood trapped visitors and vehicles in the Shuangshimen scenic area. The scenic valley is a popular summer retreat for self-driving tourists, with many visitors camping along the shallow river. The entrance to the scenic area, located at the lowest point of the valley, is particularly vulnerable to flash floods.

Emergency response teams from local fire and rescue, emergency management, health, and culture and tourism departments were immediately dispatched to conduct search and rescue operations and evacuate stranded people.
