Fourth round of search completed after Gansu flash flood leaves 10 dead
A rescuer at the scene said the floodwaters had widened the river to more than 30 meters at its widest point. The fast-flowing, debris-filled torrent hampered search efforts and made it difficult to locate people trapped in the floodwaters.
During the fourth round of search operations, firefighters set up emergency lighting and conducted overnight searches. More than 80 firefighters carried out a grid search while heavy machinery cleared debris.
Wu Mingguo, head of Dingxi's fire and rescue detachment, said that of the 247 people evacuated, seven were rescued alive from vehicles, while the others were evacuated from the scenic area.
In response to the disaster, the National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has activated a Level IV flood control emergency response for Gansu province.
