Typhoon Noul brings torrential rain across Hunan

Central China's Hunan province has been experiencing a round of heavy rainfall triggered by Typhoon Noul, the 12th typhoon of the year, local media reported.

From 7 am Sunday to 7 am Monday, torrential rains hit 19 townships across 10 county-level areas in cities including Chenzhou, Changde, Shaoyang, Zhuzhou, and Yongzhou, according to Hunan Daily.

The heaviest precipitation was recorded in Xinfang township of Guidong county, Chenzhou, reaching 223.1 millimeters. The strongest hourly rainfall was reported in Xianyu township of Hetang district, Zhuzhou, with 57.4 millimeters recorded between 1 pm and 2 pm Sunday, the report said.

The heavy rains were accompanied by extreme winds in many parts of the province. A total of 144 weather stations across all 14 prefecture-level cities and autonomous prefectures in Hunan recorded wind speeds exceeding force 8, with the highest wind speed reaching 32 meters per second (equivalent to force 11) at the Jinluo monitoring station in Lixian county at 7:47 pm Sunday, according to the report.

Despite the severe weather, water levels across the province remain stable, with all monitored rivers staying below warning levels, the report added.
