China says economic cooperation with Indonesia remains mutually beneficial

China said on Tuesday that its economic and investment cooperation with Indonesia has delivered fruitful results and is fundamentally based on mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks in response to a question about recent meetings between Chinese companies and Indonesian officials, and whether such engagement would help ease concerns that Indonesia is becoming less welcoming toward Chinese investment.

"Regarding the remarks you mentioned about so-called foreign investors exploiting or plundering Indonesia's resources, China has already responded to them. Those remarks were not directed at China," Lin said at a regular news briefing.

"Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Indonesia economic, trade and investment cooperation has achieved remarkable results in recent years. Its essence is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation," he said.

"As two major developing countries, China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors and important development partners with broad prospects for cooperation."

Lin noted that Indonesia has repeatedly expressed its expectation of deepening cooperation with China in industrial and supply chains and has welcomed more investment by Chinese enterprises.

"We believe Indonesia will continue to protect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies and provide a sound environment for their investment and business operations in the country," he said.
