Fire in high-rise building leaves four dead, two injured

Four people were killed and two others were injured in a blaze that broke out at a high-rise residential building in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, local fire and rescue authorities said on Sunday.

The blaze began at 3:54 am on Saturday at the Poly Lugu Linyu residential compound in Lugu subdistrict, Yuelu district, according to a statement from the Yuelu district fire and rescue bureau.

The six people were rescued from the scene and immediately taken to the hospital.

However, as of 4 pm on Sunday, four succumbed to their injuries despite medical treatment, while the other two remained hospitalized, the statement said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and related follow-up work is underway.
