China's Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geological disaster prevention response for Beijing at 3 pm on Tuesday as remnants of Typhoon Dolphin are expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of the city over the next three days.

According to meteorological forecasts and assessments by the ministry's geological disaster technical guidance center, areas in southwestern and northeastern Beijing face elevated risks of geological disasters during the rainstorm, prompting the initiation of the lowest-level response of the four-tier system.

The ministry has instructed Beijing's natural resources authorities to heighten risk awareness, prioritize bottom-line thinking, and strengthen geological disaster prevention and response measures.

Key tasks include organizing timely inspections and screenings, enhancing monitoring and early warning systems, conducting situation assessments, managing disaster and risk incidents, maintaining duty rosters, and improving information reporting.

The China Geological Survey and the geological disaster technical guidance center are also asked to step up consultations and expert coordination to fully support local authorities in geological disaster defense efforts.
