Inner Mongolia's Ereenhot records a milestone in China-Europe freight train trips

The number of China-Europe freight train trips handled through the central corridor, one of the network's three main rail corridors in China, has exceeded 3,000 this year, reflecting growing cross-border rail traffic through Ereenhot, a major land port on the China-Mongolia border.

The milestone was reached on Wednesday when a freight train loaded with goods departed from Ereenhot railway port in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to China Railway Hohhot Group, the regional railway operator.

The railway stations at Ereenhot and Zamyn-Uud in Mongolia have strengthened coordination to accelerate customs-border operations, including train reception and cargo transshipment, Zhang Liping, deputy head of the dispatching unit at Ereenhot railway station, said.

The two stations regularly exchange information on traffic flows and yard capacity, with priority given to China-Europe freight trains to reduce waiting times at the border, Zhang said.

As of Wednesday, the port had handled 3,013 China-Europe freight train trips and transported 2.9 million metric tons of cargo this year, up 11.58 percent and 26.74 percent year-on-year, respectively.

A total of 76 China-Europe freight train routes currently pass through the port, connecting more than 70 logistics hubs in over 10 countries, including Germany and Poland. Nationwide, 11,178 China-Europe freight trains operated in the first half of the year, up 20 percent year-on-year, according to China State Railway Group.
