Gansu official at center of anti-graft probe turns himself in

Cheng Xiaobo, the member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Gansu Provincial Committee and vice-governor of Gansu province who is facing a legal probe, has voluntarily turned himself in, China's top anti-graft authorities said on Friday.

Cheng is undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, according to a statement published on their website.

Cheng, 53, a native of Shanxi province, joined the CPC in December 1992. He spent much of his career in China's national development and reform system, including positions at the State Planning Commission and the State Development Planning Commission, predecessors of the National Development and Reform Commission.

He also served as director of the State Information Center before being appointed deputy secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission in late 2019.

Cheng moved to Gansu in 2020, when he became vice-governor of the province. In 2022, he was appointed a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee.
