Landslide in South Korea's Geoje leaves over 20 people stranded: Yonhap

SEOUL - A landslide struck the first floor of an apartment building in Okpo-dong, Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province in South Korea, at around 4:42 am Monday, leaving one resident dead, Yonhap News Agency said, citing local authorities.

Police and firefighters rescued two residents from the buried first floor and found the third resident in cardiac arrest, who was taken to a hospital and later confirmed dead.

Geoje has received more than 700 mm of rain over South Korea's three-day Liberation Day holiday, which started on Saturday, including more than 400 mm of torrential rain between Sunday night and early Monday, causing damage in several areas.

Rescuers are continuing search and rescue operations in the area.
