Shanghai Disneyland's Spider-Man-themed land has reached a construction milestone, while the Worldwide Engineering Brigade will make its global debut at the park alongside the new themed area.
Set to become the park's ninth major area and third major expansion since its 2016 opening, the new themed land was first unveiled at the D23, Disney's global fan event, in 2024. Construction has advanced steadily over the past two years. Following the completion of ride track installation in June, the first ride vehicles will be placed on the track for ride vehicle testing.
At Sunday's D23 Expo, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, announced that the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or "W.E.B.", will make its debut at Shanghai Disneyland with the opening of Spider-Man-themed land.
Conceived as an innovation hub where heroes, inventors and engineers collaborate to create and test groundbreaking technologies, W.E.B. Shanghai will deliver immersive experiences showcasing themes of heroism, creativity and engineering throughout the new themed land.
Shanghai Disney Resort also released a new creative rendering offering visitors a detailed preview of the upcoming attraction. The artwork reveals additional design elements and atmospheric details, including a robotic creation, Spider-Bot.
D23 attendees viewed an exclusive preview of a mural art program within the land, which not only provides an early glimpse of W.E.B. Shanghai but also highlights the creative contributions of Chinese artists.
Since opening, Shanghai Disney Resort has maintained steady expansion. Beyond the Spider-Man-themed land, the resort is expanding its Soaring Over the Horizon attraction and constructing two new themed hotels adjacent to the park.
