More than 680 news media organizations across China have published their 2025 social responsibility reports, covering political accountability, platform development and public service, reported Xinhua News Agency.

The reports were released by 20 major central news organizations, including the People's Daily, 58 national industrial media outlets and more than 600 local media organizations. Each assessed performance across nine dimensions, from political responsibility and platform construction to public service delivery.

In 2025, news organizations strengthened coverage of major political events, including the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee, the annual sessions of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Tianjin Summit.

China Media Group's coverage of the grand ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War reached a combined 33.94 billion views across all media platforms.

The Economic Daily and other outlets produced commentaries and in-depth reports on boosting consumption, expanding domestic demand, stabilizing foreign trade and investment, presenting multiple perspectives on the resilience and vitality of the country's economy.

In emergency and public interest reporting, China Youth Daily and Legal Daily covered the earthquake in the Xizang autonomous region, and conducted constructive oversight on social issues including the lead exposure incident at a kindergarten in Gansu province, helping advance resolution of livelihood concerns.

China Daily, the China International Communications Group and China News Service published editorials and short video series in response to the "tariff war" trade consultations between China and the United States, and remarks by the Japanese prime minister concerning China, drawing extensive reprints by overseas media.

On digital platform development, the Xinhua News Agency client and Xinhuanet client have each exceeded 440 million downloads. The PLA News Media Center now operates 91 new media platforms reaching 360 million users.

Each media organization also reported on shortcomings in fulfilling social responsibilities, along with corrective measures and improvement plans.

This year marks the 13th year of the media social responsibility reporting system. As of late July, the 2025 reports have generated more than 80 million views, receiving widespread recognition from the public.
