In response to the severe security situation and rampant telecom fraud in Eswatini, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Wednesday that the Chinese government has issued a travel advisory following a cautious assessment to ensure the safety of its citizens.

China "will take necessary measures to safeguard the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens overseas," Lin said at a daily news briefing in Beijing.

He noted that telecommunications fraud and online gambling are currently rampant in Eswatini, and risks related to public order and safety are extremely high.

Issuing security advisories is standard practice for countries around the world, and China has issued similar advisories in the past, he added.
