Ding calls for China-Russia cooperation on AI, energy

Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang called on Friday for China and Russia to tap the potential for cooperation in frontier areas and explore ways for artificial intelligence and the energy sector to empower each other, as the two countries seek to broaden and deepen their energy partnership.

Ding made the remarks in Vladivostok, Russia, while co-chairing the 23rd meeting of the China-Russia Energy Cooperation Committee with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

To further deepening bilateral energy cooperation, Ding urged efforts to consolidate existing cooperation, properly address the concerns of businesses, maintain the long-term and sustainable development of oil and gas trade, and ensure the orderly construction and smooth operation of energy projects.

He called on China and Russia to jointly promote reform of the global energy governance system and make greater contributions to ensuring energy security and sustainable development in both countries and around the world.

Novak said Russia-China energy cooperation has continued to yield new results, contributing to the rapid growth of bilateral trade and helping maintain the stability of energy supply chains.

Russia is ready to work with China to optimize existing cooperation projects and expand and plan new areas of cooperation for the next stage, contributing further to practical cooperation between the two countries, he said.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed cooperation in oil, natural gas, coal, electricity, renewable energy and nuclear energy, and discussed future cooperation, reaching broad consensus.
