China committed to Asia-Pacific peace, rejects major-power confrontation

China reiterated on Monday that it is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and does not engage in major-power confrontation, following Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.'s comment that China could view recent cuts to US-South Korea military exercises as an opportunity to reassert itself in the "Indo-Pacific" region.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular news briefing. "We hope relevant countries will also play a positive role for regional peace and stability," Mao added.
