China housing expo to spotlight quality homes and low-carbon construction

Themed "technology-driven quality housing, green and low-carbon living", the 23rd China International Exposition of Housing Industry and Products and Equipment of Building Industrialization is scheduled to be held in Beijing from Oct 15 to 17, organizers announced at a news conference on Thursday.

Also known as the China Housing Expo, the event is organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development's technology and industrialization center, the China Real Estate Association, and the China Architectural Culture Center, and will take place at the Shougang Exhibition and Convention Center in Beijing.

Exhibition areas will cover the construction of quality homes, prefabricated buildings, intelligent construction, and modular interior decoration. Other sections will feature digital homes, ultra-low-energy and zero-carbon buildings, green industries, building materials, government-subsidized housing, and urban renewal, the organizers said.

Participating companies will span property development, design, construction and building operations, as well as suppliers of materials and equipment. The focus will be on technologies and products that can improve housing quality and support the construction industry's shift toward greener, more efficient production, according to the organizers.

The event comes as China makes housing quality a larger part of efforts to stabilize the property market. The 2026 Government Work Report called for city-specific measures to control new supply, reduce inventories, and improve housing supply. It also proposed the orderly development of safe, comfortable, green and smart "quality homes," alongside programs to improve housing quality and property management services.

In May, the State Council also issued an urban renewal plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), a national policy document on upgrading existing urban areas. It calls for the construction and renovation of quality homes, a green and low-carbon transition in cities, wider use of intelligent construction, and a full life-cycle safety management system for housing.

Against that backdrop, the October expo is expected to offer an industry view of how national housing goals are being translated into design, construction materials, industrialized building methods, and home technologies.
