CPC expels former senior official of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps

Li Xu, a former senior official of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs announced on Friday.

The announcement was disclosed online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

Li, 53, was placed under disciplinary and supervisory investigation in January.

According to the commission, Li was found to have engaged in political speculation, associating with political swindlers, and long-term participation in superstitious activities.

He accepted banquets that could affect the impartial performance of his official duties, received vehicles and driver services provided free of charge by private business owners, and had expenses that should have been borne by himself paid by others.

He was also discovered to have sought benefits for others in various matters such as the selection and appointment of officials and the recruitment of employees, and failed to report the issues when being questioned by investigators, the commissions noted.

While accepting gifts and cash in violation of regulations, he was insatiably greedy, turning public power into a tool for personal gain, the commissions said.

Additionally, he took advantage of his positions to seek profits for others in equipment procurement, project contracting and changes in land use, and accepted huge sums of money and property in return, the commissions added.

The authorities highlighted that they decided to expel Li from the CPC and dismiss him from public office because he seriously breached the Party rules, constituted severe duty violations and allegedly committed the crime of bribery.

His illicit gains were confiscated, and his suspected criminal offenses and related assets have been transferred to prosecutors for further review and investigation, the commission said.

Public information shows that Li worked in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region for many years, holding important positions in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

In June 2022, he was appointed a standing committee member of the Communist Party of China committee of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and deputy commander of the corps.
