Yadea, Spiro partner to expand electric mobility in Africa

Yadea Global, a Chinese electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has partnered with Spiro, an African electric mobility company, to expand accessible and sustainable electric transport across Africa.

The strategic partnership combines Yadea's manufacturing, research and development capabilities with Spiro's electric mobility operations and battery-swapping infrastructure in Africa.

Under the agreement, released on Monday, Yadea will supply electric two-wheelers and other electric vehicle products, while Spiro will integrate the vehicles into its battery-swapping and energy infrastructure. The companies will work together to develop two-wheeler platforms tailored to African markets and commercial applications.

"Our strategic partnership with Yadea is a major endorsement of our execution to date and opens fantastic opportunities to jointly pioneer the next era of electric mobility in emerging markets," Gagan Gupta, founder of Spiro said.

Anant Badjatya, chief executive officer of Spiro, hailed Africa's accelerating transition to electric mobility, noting that the partnership would help meet growing demand at scale.

"By bringing together Yadea's manufacturing strength with Spiro's electric mobility ecosystem and operating experience across Africa, we are compressing the timeline to clean transport -- helping thousands more riders switch to affordable EVs faster and multiplying our climate impact across the continent," Badjatya said.

Wang Jiazhong, senior vice-president of Yadea Technology Group, said Africa represents a major frontier for zero-emission transport, adding that the company's mission to reduce carbon emissions had reached a powerful milestone through the partnership.

"Together, we are combining global innovation with local infrastructure to deliver scalable and sustainable mobility solutions that serve millions of riders and transform Africa's urban transit," Wang said.
