China issues warning on potential misuse of two chemicals

On Tuesday, China's national anti-drug authority issued a public warning regarding the risk of medetomidine and tartaric acid being diverted into illegal channels for drug production.

The office of the China National Narcotics Control Commission highlighted recent findings that these chemicals could be used in the manufacture of illicit drugs, prompting a notice aimed at preventing their misuse.

The notice specifies the chemicals' names, Chemical Abstracts Service numbers (CAS), and customs commodity codes, reminding companies and individuals involved in their trade to bolster legal compliance.

Businesses and individuals engaged in the sale or export of these chemicals must adhere to relevant Chinese and foreign laws and regulations, as well as guidelines set out in previous warnings from the national anti-drug authority.

The office urged relevant businesses and individuals to stay vigilant against the risk of these chemicals entering illegal channels and being used for drug production.
