China to expand Beidou industry past 1t yuan in 5 years

China will ramp up efforts to expand its Beidou satellite navigation industry beyond 1 trillion yuan ($149 billion) during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), the National Development and Reform Commission said on Tuesday.

To this end, the country will step up research into key technologies, including high-end chips and critical components, and promote the integration of Beidou with artificial intelligence and satellite internet, said Li Chao, a spokeswoman for the NDRC, at a news conference in Beijing.

"We will move faster to put satellite navigation regulations in place," Li said, adding that the country will also improve industry standards and testing and certification systems to support the wider use of Beidou.

China will also take an active part in global satellite navigation governance, she said. "We will bring the benefits of Beidou products and services to more countries and more people."

The Beidou Navigation Satellite System, a key part of China's space infrastructure, is being used in a growing range of applications. The industry's total output value exceeded 629 billion yuan in 2025, according to the commission.
