China, US reach consensus on multiple economic and trade issues

China and the United States reached consensus on multiple economic and trade issues during their latest round of consultations in New York, where the two sides also held their first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the bilateral economic and trade consultation mechanism, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

He Yadong, a spokesman for the ministry, said at a regular news briefing that the two countries' economic and trade teams recently held their eighth round of consultations in New York, the US, reaching consensus on several issues. 

The two sides held candid, in-depth and constructive exchanges on economic and trade issues of mutual concern, reaching consensus on multiple issues including reciprocal tariff reductions, establishing trade and investment councils, and extending the joint arrangements reached at the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultation, He said.

On artificial intelligence, Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, serving as their respective lead representatives, held their first dialogue on the issue under the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, the spokesman said.

China will maintain close communication with the US on follow-up work under the mechanism, He added.
