Former senior national political advisor indicted for bribery

Yi Huiman, former deputy director of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been indicted on suspicion of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Wednesday.

The National Commission of Supervision had completed its investigation before transferring it to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate approved Yi's arrest on suspicion of bribery and designated the Qingdao People's Procuratorate in Shandong province to handle the review and prosecution of the case. Recently, the Qingdao People's Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against Yi with the Qingdao Intermediate People's Court.

During the review and prosecution stage, the procuratorial authorities informed Yi of his litigation rights, interrogated him and heard the opinions of his defense counsel.

Prosecutors accused Yi of taking advantage of his positions as deputy Party secretary and vice-president of the Jiangsu branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China; Party secretary and president of the Jiangsu branch of ICBC; member of the Party committee and vice-president of ICBC; deputy Party secretary and president of ICBC; Party secretary and chairman of ICBC; and Party secretary and chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, to seek benefits for others and illegally accept a particularly large amount of money and property.

Prosecutors said Yi should be held criminally responsible for bribery in accordance with the law.
