The Chinese Embassy in Thailand has urged Thai police to expedite an investigation into the disappearance of a 33-year-old music teacher from Shanghai who has been missing since Sept 25.

The embassy said on Friday afternoon that it had received a request for assistance and notified Thai police of the case. The man's relatives have authorized people in Thailand to report the case to police, and the embassy has urged authorities to determine his whereabouts as soon as possible.

The case is currently under further investigation, the embassy said.

According to information posted by several people on social media on Oct 1, the man, identified by his family name Wang, is a Shanghai native. He flew to Bangkok on the evening of Sept 24 and remained in contact with relatives and friends via WeChat during the day on Sept 25. His phone was turned off after the evening of Sept 25.

An earlier report said Wang's school had confirmed that he had not returned to work after the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. His family had reported his disappearance to police and the school said it would fully cooperate with the investigation.
