Chongqing moves to regulate motorcycle trend amid safety concerns

Local governments in Chongqing have initiated special rectification and regulation efforts in response to the safety issues associated with a quirky new trend called the "Motorcycle Visa on-Arrival", a popular commercial photo and video shooting experience in the city, China Central Television reported on Monday.

Under the guidance of professional riders, the experience allows tourists to capture their exciting moments through a motorcycle road trip surrounded by the city's stunning night views.

According to previous reports, during such shooting experiences, riders are letting go of the handlebars, occupying roadways, revving engines loudly, and weaving through traffic lanes.

Meanwhile, some tourists shoot near the city's riverside park, posing safety risks.

Targeting those problems, the Nan'an district and Liangjiang New Area have made concentrated rectification plans.

Nan'an has designated fixed parking areas for the motorcycles used for photography, set their business hours, and established operational behavior standards, while holding discussions with the business teams involved.

Nightly patrols are conducted during peak times to manage and resolve issues such as road occupation, illegal parking, and the accumulation of props.

Liangjiang New Area has also responded to the problems — mainly around the riverside park — with immediate coordinating efforts to guide and regulate those commercial photography activities with strict risk warnings.

Meanwhile, the local government has been actively gathering suggestions from tourists and implementing special zone management to ensure a pleasant and safe experience for tourists.
