Ding Yexian, former deputy head of the standing committee of the Xizang autonomous region people's congress, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for serious disciplinary violations and illegal behaviors, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs said on Friday.

The announcement was disclosed online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

Ding, 66, a native of Shandong province, was placed under disciplinary and supervisory investigation in April.

Ding was found to have lost his ideals and resisted investigation, and illegally occupied guest rooms for personal use and accepted banquets in violation of regulations. He improperly sought benefits for others in the selection and appointment of officials and failed to report personal matters as required.

The investigation also discovered that he accepted gifts and engaged in profit-making activities. In addition, he turned public power into a tool for personal gain, amassing money and wealth on a large scale, using his positions to seek benefits for others in areas such as company listing, project contracting and business development, and then accepted huge amounts of money and property in return.

The commissions said that they decided to expel Ding from the CPC because he had seriously breached the Party rules, constituted severe duty violations and allegedly committed the crime of bribery.

His illicit gains were confiscated, and his suspected criminal offenses and related assets have been transferred to prosecutors for further review and investigation, the commissions added.

Public information shows that Ding began working at a power supply station in Xizang in 1978. He served as the vice-chairman of the autonomous region from September 2010 to June 2013 before being named as the executive vice-chairman of Xizang.

He became the deputy head of the Xizang people's congress standing committee, the local top legislative body, in January 2021.
