Once known for its muddy roads and stone quarries, Ma'anshan village in Changchun, Jilin province, has gradually transformed into a picturesque destination where flowers bloom, following years of environmental restoration.
"In the past, we were covered in dust on sunny days and mud on rainy days," said Zhao Shilong, the village's Party secretary.
Ma'anshan had long relied heavily on mining. Selling stones meant selling off resources that belonged to future generations, Zhao said.
In 2016, the village began shutting down its mines and restoring the damaged environment.
