Intellectual property and legal experts from China and Europe have emphasized the need for robust oversight of artificial intelligence-generated content, committing to uphold the global copyright framework for the benefit of the international community.

While embracing AI, the experts highlighted the importance of strengthening technical research and regulating its application. They called for revising the implementing provisions of the Copyright Law as an opportunity to improve institutional design and explore the development of copyright rules tailored to AI scenarios.

These remarks and suggestions were made at the EU-China Roundtable on Copyright Protection in the Digital Environment, held in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Tuesday. The event, co-organized by China's National Copyright Administration and the EU IP Project in China, focused on cutting-edge topics such as copyright governance in the digital age, copyright legislation and enforcement practices in China and Europe, and copyright protection in the era of generative AI.

More than 100 domestic and international specialists participated in the seminar, jointly exploring emerging challenges and new pathways for copyright protection amid the transformations brought by digital technology. The aim was to promote mutual understanding, trust, and collaborative cooperation between China and Europe in the field of copyright.

Roberto Escarre, lead of the EU IP Project in China, noted that Europe and China may take different approaches to certain issues, highlighting the importance of technological dialogue. He expressed hope that exchanges and discussions will deepen mutual understanding of each other's systems.

Chinese participants stated that China has always been committed to actively participating in global copyright governance, having acceded to several major international conventions and maintained regular cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization. They added that China will further deepen exchanges and dialogue with Europe in the field of copyright.
