Wu Hao, former director of the Science and Technology Innovation and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office for serious violations of Party disciplines and national laws, the country's top anti-corruption authorities announced on Wednesday.
The announcement was published online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.
Wu was placed under investigation in April. The commissions found that he had resisted the investigation, accepted banquets that could affect the impartial performance of his duties, failed to report personal matters as required and accepted gifts and cash in violation of regulations.
Driven by greed, Wu also abused his power for personal gain and engaged in extensive power-for-money transactions, using his positions to secure benefits for others in areas including investment project approvals, listing project reviews and qualification assessments for key enterprises, in exchange for huge sums of money and property.
The commissions said Wu's conduct constituted serious violations of Party disciplines and serious duty-related violations, and that he was suspected of bribery.
His illicit gains have been confiscated, and his suspected criminal offenses and related assets have been transferred to prosecutors for further review and investigation, the commissions said.
Public records show that Wu, 54, is a native of Sichuan province. After graduating from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in July 1993, he began his career as a technician at a factory.
He subsequently spent decades working at the National Development and Reform Commission, where he held several key positions. In January 2025, he became director of the Science and Technology Innovation and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
