A Beijing court has set up a rule of law station in a park to make legal services more accessible to local residents and visitors, particularly seniors.
The Xicheng District People's Court launched the station on Friday in Wanshou Park, the city's first comprehensive park focused on senior activities and a nationally recognized model for promoting respect for the elderly.
Hao Chengwen, the deputy head of the district's civil affairs department, said that placing a legal service station in a park where seniors relax and exercise brings the rule of law into everyday public spaces.
"Our civil affairs team is eager to collaborate with the court to integrate various senior care resources, conduct regular joint inspections to identify risks affecting the elderly, and ensure that disputes involving them can be addressed and resolved conveniently," he said.
Guo Yunyan, a member of the court's adjudication committee, said that from 2021 to 2025, the court handled 43,011 cases involving individuals aged 60 and over, accounting for nearly 15 percent of all lawsuits.
Among these cases, more than 20 percent were related to domestic matters, including inheritance and divorce, followed by those involving contracts and property, according to a report issued by the court.
Li Shuang, a judge from the court's first civil division, emphasized the judicial commitment to efficiently manage senior-related cases, urging businesses to maintain ethical marketing and promotional practices and advising seniors to approach financial activities and the purchase of nursing care services with caution and rationality.
