This activity is part of the city's annual aquatic resource monitoring, which has been conducted since a 10-year fishing ban was implemented in 2021 across key waters of the Yangtze basin.

Now, a smart fisheries monitoring system has been deployed in Xiangtan, providing around-the-clock surveillance of key river sections. Combined with patrols by public security and market regulators, this comprehensive system helps crack down on illegal fishing on the Xiangjiang River. Meanwhile, authorities have provided support for fishermen who have retired from the river and have encouraged volunteers to join patrols.
