China opposes abuse of judicial measures to pressure Cuba, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Wednesday, following reports that the US state of Florida's attorney general issued an arrest warrant for former Cuban president Raul Castro.

Mao described Raul as a venerated Cuban revolutionary leader held in high international esteem. She said that Cuba's president and foreign minister have condemned the move by the United States as a "pathetic circus".

China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding national sovereignty and opposing external interference, Mao said, urging the US to immediately cease its blockade and any form of coercion or pressure against Cuba, and stop infringing upon the Cuban people's right to survive and thrive.
